- The refugee protection functions of the UNHCR include "seeking permanent solutions for the problem of refugees by assisting governments and, subject to the approval of the government concerned, private organizations to facilitate the voluntary repatriation of such refugees, or their assimilation within new national communities" (Statute of the Office of the UNHCR)
- Une des fonctions du Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés est de rechercher «des solutions permanentes au problème des réfugiés, en aidant les gouvernements et, sous réserve de l'approbation des gouvernements intéressés, les organisations privées à faciliter le rapatriement librement consenti de ces réfugiés ou leur assimilation dans de nouvelles communautés nationales.» (Statut du Haut Commissariat pour les réfugiés).
