Alcance y contenido

This series documents the activities and output of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights’ (CMHR) Oral History Program. This program was established by the CMHR Research and Curation Department in 2010, with the Collections Department as co-lead.

The Oral History Program was first known as the “Icons Project” and the “Notables Project” in early documentation. In 2010 it was renamed “Champions: An Oral History Pilot Project”. The Champions project was established to develop a broader oral history collection as the foundation for the CMHR Archives, and as potential content for inaugural and post-inaugural exhibits, website, educational programming, research and scholarship. The Champions pilot project then became the Oral History Program.

By 2015, over 210 interviews had been conducted, not only in English and French, but in other languages as well, including Hungarian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.

This Oral History Program series is arranged into two sub-series: Oral History Interviews and Administrative Records (not available at this time). The Oral History Interviews sub-series is broken down into individual interviews. Each interview page includes a description of the interview and interviewee, along with the interview in audio or video format. Please note that the audio and video interviews are currently only available for listening/viewing in the CMHR Reference Centre.
