Chris (Christopher) Vogel and Rich (Richard) North
This file consists of an oral history interview with Chris (Christopher) Vogel and Rich (Richard) North, and associated documents. The interview was conducted by Elise Chenier, with videographer Jessica Sigurdson, on November 15, 2010.

Mr. North and Mr. Vogel speak about:
• Their gay rights activism in Winnipeg from the 1970s onwards that included: putting up gay liberation posters, bringing in speakers, helping to organize the 2nd National Gay Conference and first gay march, meeting with politicians, lobbying to include sexual orientation in the Manitoba Human Rights Act, etc.
• Successfully challenging the Province of Manitoba for same-sex spousal benefits.
• Details about their 1974 marriage ceremony at the Unitarian Church of Winnipeg, and the media coverage of it, including an interview with Barbara Frum for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)’s “As It Happens,”
• Challenging the Province of Manitoba’s marriage laws after refusing to register the marriage.
• The creation of Giovanni’s Room, later called Gio’s, a Winnipeg gay night club.
